Red Shirt Day for accessibility and inclusion

Event Date: May 31, 2023

May 31 is Red Shirt Day in the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.

Red Shirt Day is a day of action for accessibility and inclusion when people across Canada come together in a visible display of solidarity to show their support for persons in our community who are living with disabilities. Red Shirt Day takes place at the mid-point of National AccessAbility Week, held this year from May 28 to June 3.

Disability accessibility and inclusion does not end with just a one-day annual event. In order to make Canada a truly accessible and inclusive society, it requires the constant, year-round commitment and efforts of all Canadians to put it into practice in order to make it real, and to also advocate and take action to increase accessibility and inclusion.

On Wednesday, May 31, students and staff can make a meaningful difference by wearing red to show their support for persons living with disabilities and pledging to take action to remove physical, attitudinal and systemic barriers to accessibility and inclusion in school, in the workplace and in the community.
